The alternative hollow cone spray makes it much more difficult for the operator not to miss part of the teat during the teat spraying process, as the pictures below clearly illustrate.   Solid cone nozzle spray pattern Hollow cone nozzle spray pattern   Recent research carried out for Ambic by the Silsoe Spray Applications Unit has demonstrated that the new fixed geometry nozzle produces a larger mean droplet size as the following figure illustrates. A coarser spray was also found to giver a higher deposition of chemical than finer sprays.
